Former Pakistan skipper Younis Khan took the entire cricket fraternity by surprise as he decided to step down as the Pakistan batting coach on June 22, Tuesday. Younis joined the Pakistan cricket team as their batting coach in November 2020 and signed a contract of two years which was valid until the T20 World Cup 2022.

However, it is learned that there were tensions amid the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Younis for quite some time now. As per CricWick, Younis didn’t report to the bio-secure bubble in Lahore because of his dispute with PCB officials. Also, Khan had problems regarding the policies of the National High-Performance Centre while he wasn’t much happy with the presence of Mohammad Yousuf in the players’ camp ahead of the home series against Proteas earlier this year.

One noteworthy point here is that it wasn’t the first time that Younis was at loggerheads with the Pakistan Cricket Board. Earlier, the former skipper refused to essay the role of a coach for the U19 team. PCB also offered a job to Younis as the mentor but the veteran wanted a high-profile position that would have provided him the right to intervene in the national selection.

Wasim Khan confirms the news of Younis Khan stepping down as Pakistan’s batting coach

He finally accepted the job of batting coach last year but it has also now come to an end. PCB chief executive Wasim Khan revealed the news of Younis and the cricket body parting ways with each other. Wasim didn’t dwell on the reasons behind the batting coach’s resignation. However, the official expressed his gratitude to the veteran for his contribution to the Pakistan Cricket team and wished him all the best for his future endeavors.

“It is sad to lose an expert of the stature and experience of Younis Khan. Following a series of discussions, we both have reluctantly but mutually and amicably agreed that it was time to move in different directions. I want to thank Younis Khan for his contributions during his short stint as the Pakistan men’s national cricket team’s batting coach and hope he will remain available to assist the PCB by sharing his vast knowledge with the emerging cricketers,” he said according to the press release from PCB.
