Revelations of Darren Lehmann's conversation in the walkie-talkie

Australian cricket has recently been ripped apart following the ball-tampering row. The media and the cricketing fraternity, including Australian Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Sutherland, have condemned the horrendous crime. However, Darren Lehmann, who was suspected to have played a major role in the fiasco, came out clean. His conversation with 12th man Peter Handscomb, which was caught in a video-footage, sparked the controversy.

Nevertheless, in a recent interaction with the journalists, Sutherland revealed that Lehmann was misinterpreted and the head coach had nothing to do with the incidents which panned out at the Newlands. “I want to clarify that specific point. He sent a message to say ‘what the hell is going on’, except he didn’t use the word ‘hell’. [Cricket Australia’s head of integrity] Iain Roy in his investigation found that to be the fact.” Sutherland was quoted as saying by mid-day.

“One of the good guys”- Border

Meanwhile, Allan Border, the former Aussie skipper, has heaped praises on Lehmann for his wonderful stint for the Aussie thus far. “If [the] integrity officer has been through and interviewed people and he’s satisfied that Darren Lehmann didn’t know specifically what was going on at the time, I’m very relaxed. We’re talking about one of the good guys in Australian cricket. He’s done a fantastic job with that team and if he wasn’t aware of what was going on, there’s no problem at all,” he told Fox Sports.

While Lehmann has been given a clean chit, other perpetrators in the form of Steve Smith, David Warner, and Peter Handscomb have been duly punished by Cricket Australia.

While Smith and Warner have been slapped with a ban of one-year, Handscomb has received a ban of nine months. Meanwhile, the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council, has barred Smith and Warner from taking part in the tournament.
