Irfan Pathan, the former Indian all-rounder, recently came out in support of Greg Chappell, saying that the Australian legend didn’t spoil his career. Irfan said that it was Sachin Tendulkar’s idea to send him at number three, not Chappell’s. The 35-year-old Pathan was of the opinion that he was sent up the order to neutralise the Sri Lankan bowling attack during a home series.

The former Indian coach came under the pump and was severely criticised, especially after his souring relationship with Sourav Ganguly. Moreover, India’s early exit from the 2007 World Cup didn’t help his cause either. However, Irfan said that he was being made the ‘punching bag’ since he wasn’t from India. On April 2007, Chappell resigned as the head coach of the national team.

But a user on Twitter didn’t seem to like the fact that Irfan supported Chappell. The user went to the extent of comparing Irfan to Hafiz Saeed, the leader of terrorist organisation Jamat-ud-Dawa. “@IrfanPathan is not hiding his ambitions to become the next Hafiz Saeed at all..this s**t is disgusting,” the tweet read.

The tweet didn’t go down well with Irfan by any stretch of the imagination. He took to Twitter and wrote, “This is the mentality of certain ppl. Where have we reached ? #shame #disgusted.”

In the meantime, Richa Chaddha, the veteran Bollywood actor reckons that the tweet came from a ‘fake account’. She said that the tweet was made for the motive of earning money. “It’s fake account. Bot. Not a real person,” her tweet read.

“Yes. Someone is making two rupees per abusive tweet. In this economy, they are earning like this,” she further wrote. Chaddha has acted in a number of popular movies like Fukrey, Gangs of Wasseypur, Panga, Masaan and Section 375.

Jwala Gutta, the retired Indian badminton player, also asked Irfan to not pay heed to the comments. She wrote, “Pls don’t pay attention to these losers… moreover it could be fake account!!” Back in 2011, she won the Arjuna Award for her achievements. She also won the gold and silver medals at the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games.
