Ricky Ponting brutally trolled on Twitter after his pre-series predictions backfire completely
While most of the fans were busy celebrating the win and congratulating the team, some were quick to recall Ponting's prediction before the series.
Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting was all over the Twitter for all the wrong reasons on Monday. The reason for the same was India registering a historic Test series win, thus proving Ponting’s pre-series prediction wrong. The fourth and final Test ended in a draw due to weather as India won the series 2-1. India had already taken an unassailable lead in the series following the wins in Adelaide and Melbourne.
The outcome of the series was pretty much clear when the visitors posted a huge 622 for 7 in their first innings. Cheteshwar Pujara had starred with the bat, scoring 193 while Rishabh Pant also compiled a fine unbeaten ton. In reply, Australia were all out for just 300 before being asked to follow-on. The hosts were 6 for no loss in the second session of the fourth day before bad light stopped play and eventually ended the day. The weather did not improve on the final day either before the umpires called off the game.
The draw quashed India’s hopes of winning the series 3-1 but gave them a historic series win Down Under. It is India’s first Test series win in Australia in 12 attempts. India had toured Australia 11 times since their first visit in 1948 but could not lay their hands on the trophy even once. But the 71-year wait finally ended on Monday. Barring the second Test in Perth, India had thoroughly dominated the series.
Twitter targets Ponting:
While most of the fans were busy celebrating the win and congratulating the team, some were quick to recall Ponting’s prediction before the series. The legendary batsman had predicted that the hosts would win the series and Usman Khawaja would score more than Virat Kohli. And while India won the series 2-1, Khawaja scored 198 compared to Kohli’s 282. In fact, Khawaja was not the top-scorer for his side too.
The fans were quick to give it back to Ponting after his predictions backfired. Here are some of the reactions:
