The spread of coronavirus has brought the entire world to a standstill. Many cricketers are using this time to interact with their fans and share their stories on and off the field. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting had recently one of the on-field stories of his own.

Ponting had revealed on Twitter that Andrew Flintoff’s spell during the Edgbaston Test of the 2005 Ashes series was the best spell of reverse swing bowling. However, many fans then asked Ponting whether he was right about his observation or not.

Many fans shared several other spells and asked Ponting if he thought they were better than Flintoff or not. Finally, on Wednesday he revealed that a spell from Shoaib Akhtar was the fastest one he had ever faced. Ponting shared the video of the spell on his official Twitter handle.

He said that he had received several questions after his take on Flintoff being the best he has ever faced. He revealed that his spell from former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar was the fastest he had ever. The former Aussie skipper also revealed that Justin Langer, who was at the other end didn’t want to back up either.

The tweet from the Aussie legend read, “Got plenty of questions the other day after calling the Flintoff over the best I’d faced. This from @shoaib100mph was the fastest spell I’d ever faced and trust me Justin wasn’t backing up too far at the other end.”

The spell which can be seen in the video is from a Test match between Pakistan and Australia at the WACA Ground in Perth. The WACA pitch is still known as the fastest wicket in the world. Shoaib Akhtar made complete use of this opportunity and bowled quite quick balls at the batsman.

Ponting was struggling in the series. He was got three ducks in three innings of that series. Before this Test, Ponting had hit the lowest point in his Test career till that point with three consecutive ducks. Akhtar was running in hard and giving the Tasmanian batsman a hard time. However, Ponting endured everything and then went on to score 197 runs. Langer also scored a magnificent 144 to help Australia win the Test match by an innings and 20 runs.
