A prolific batsman, the most successful captain ever and a sharp fielder. Ricky Ponting was one of the very few players whom the sport feels lucky to have. The Australian stands near the peak positions in the Test and ODI format but stands as the only captain in the history so far to win four different ICC Trophies. Ponting is only next to Clive Lloyd to win multiple World Cups but the only captain to lift the Champions Trophy title twice.

1 – Ricky Ponting is only the player to be positioned at No.1 in all the three formats of ICC Batsman rankings at the same time. Ponting became the No.1 in T20I format after an unbeaten 98* in the first ever T20I game and achieved this unique feat later in December 2005.
1 – Ponting holds the record for most runs in International cricket (15440) and ODI cricket (8497) as a captain. His 41 International hundreds including 22 ODI tons are also the most for any player while leading the team.
3 – Ponting stands at No.3 to in the list of highest centuries in Test cricket and ODI cricket. He has 41 Test tons and 30 hundreds in ODI cricket.
29 – Ponting holds the record for leading in the most number of games in World Cup (29) and the Champions Trophy (16). He also has the most number of wins as captain in the CWC (26) and CT (12).
48 – Ponting led Australia to 48 wins in Test cricket the 2nd most number of wins in this format for a captain. Graeme Smith led South Africa to 53 Test victories.
71 – His 71 centuries in International cricket are the 2nd most behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 hundreds.
98* – Ricky Ponting’s 98* against New Zealand in the first ever T20I game in 2005 is still the highest individual score for a player in his debut T20I game.
108 – Ponting is the only player to be a part of 100 wins in Test cricket. He featured in 108 Test wins of Australia in the 168 Tests he played in his career.
165 – His 165 wins as an ODI skipper are the most by a fair margin. MS Dhoni comes next to Ponting with 110 ODI wins as a captain.
220 – Ponting is the only captain in International history to lead in 200 victories. Dhoni stands behind the Aussie skipper with 178 wins.
242 – Ricky Ponting’s 242 against India in the 2004 Adelaide Test match is the highest individual score coming in losing cause in Test history.
262 – He was involved in 262 ODI wins in his 375-match career which is a record. Mahela Jayawardene stands behind Ponting as he was a part of 241 wins in this format.
364 – Ponting has taken 364 catches as a fielder in International cricket. These are the 2nd most for any fielder after Jayawardene’s 440 catches. He bagged 196 catches in Test cricket (4th most), 160 catches in ODI cricket (2nd most) and 8 catches in the T20I format.
377 – Ponting was a part of record 377 wins across formats in International cricket (108 Tests, 262 ODIs and 7 T20Is). Jayawardene comes next to Ponting as he was a part of 336 wins.
1743 – His 1743 runs in the World Cups are the 2nd most behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 2278 runs. Ponting has five hundreds in the CWCs which are the joint 2nd most behind Sachin’s six tons. His tally of 593 runs in the Champions Trophy is the highest for an Australian.
9157 – His 9157 Test runs in wins are the most by a fair margin. Steven Waugh has 6460 runs in Test victories. Ponting’s 25 Test hundreds in the winning cause are also the most for any player. His 10726 runs in ODI wins are the 2nd most behind Sachin’s 11157 runs.
13378 – Ponting’s Test aggregate is the 2nd highest for any player after Sachin Tendulkar’s 15921 runs.
13704 – Only two players have scored more runs in ODI cricket than Ponting’s 13704 runs. Sachin leads the chart with 18426 runs while Kumar Sangakkara has 14234 runs. Ponting’s 27483 International runs are also the 3rd most behind Sachin and Sangakkara.
20140 – Ponting is the only player to score 20000 International runs in the winning cause. Sachin stands at 2nd on this list with 17113. Ponting’s 55 centuries in wins are also the most ahead of Sachin’s 53 tons.
