Riot, four arrested in the 3rd ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Premadasa: The 3rd ODI between Pakistan and the hosts Sri Lanka came to a halt after a stone came strolling down onto the field at the Premadasa Stadium. Javagal Srinath, the match referee was forced to delay the match by half an hour. The incident came to light after a fight broke out in the terraced section of the south-eastern stand during the Sri Lankan innings.

Half way through the one-sided 50 over match which was completely in Pakistan’s favor mishaps started to take place, the riot seems to have been a result of the poor form of the Sri Lankan team. Police spokesman Assistant Superintendent Ruwan Gunasekera said to the PTI “we are on the look out for more trouble-makers through video footage”.

Anti-riot forces were deployed into the stands to clear the rival groups of spectator taking into account the safety of the players. The reasons for the disruption is not yet clear, the distraction resulted in the injury of four persons which included two policemen, three vehicles were damaged as well. No harm was caused to any player, the match resumed with Sri Lanka at 158/7 struggling the chase of Pakistan’s 316/4 which seemed unbeatable. The match ended with Pakistan winning the 3rd ODI by a huge margin of 135 runs. The fourth one-day is scheduled to be played at the same venue.
