Rishabh Pant can't be successful Test batsman with his current technique: Salman Butt

Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has struggled to get going in the five-match Test series against England thus far. In the 5 innings that he has batted, Pant has managed to score just 87 runs at an underwhelming average of 17.40.

Also, the 23-year-old has failed to cross the 30-run mark in 4 out of the 5 innings that he has batted. And, former Pakistan batsman Salman Butt has opined that Pant does not have the proper technique to succeed in England conditions. Stating that the swashbuckling batsman is coming out of his crease every ball, Butt added that Pant cannot be successful with his technique.

Adding that even though Pant might have had a successful run in India and Australia with the willow, Butt opined that with his current batting technique, Pant cannot emerge successful in seaming conditions.

“Rishabh Pant doesn’t have a proper technique to play in England conditions. He is trying to come out of the crease on almost every ball and he can’t be successful Test batsman with such technique. He should develop some patience with better defensive technique.

His defence is not strong enough in seaming conditions. He might be successful in India or Australia conditions but he can’t be successful in seaming conditions in any part of the world,” said Butt while speaking on his YouTube channel.

Salman Butt further reckoned that Rishabh Pant is batting with a lot of confusion in his mind, and even his shots were halfhearted as well. Butt concluded by stating that Pant has been playing away from his body, and will end up getting caught in the slips with his current technique.

“He was clearly playing with a lot of confusion in mind and his shots were half-hearted. When the ball was going with an angle, he was trying to play away from his body, which he actually should have left. There are chances that he will get out in slips,” concluded Salman Butt.

England thrashed India by an innings and 76 runs in the third Test match to level the five-match Test series 1-1. The fourth Test between Joe Root’s men and Virat Kohli’s men will commence on 2nd September 2021 at the Kennington Oval.
