Rishabh Pant could be offered a central contract after his performance Down Under
Pant is the second highest run-getter in the ongoing Test series.
Rishabh Pant was considered to be a batsman whose dashing style suits the limited-overs versions more but the 21-year-old southpaw has proved his mettle more than once in Tests now. The current Test series Down Under has seen Pant facing criticism at times for his verbal go at the opposition players but his performance both in front and behind the wickets has also established him as one of the finest cricketers.
Pant created a history on Friday when he smashed his second Test ton and went on to score an unbeaten 159 in just 189 balls that included 15 fours and a six. The Delhi batsman thus not only became the Indian wicketkeeper with the highest individual score abroad but also came close to becoming the visiting wicketkeeper with the highest individual score Down Under, a record which is still under possession of former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers (169).
Pant has also taken 20 wickets in first three Tests
Now, if reports are to be believed, Pant, who is playing just his ninth Test in Sydney, could be rewarded with BCCI’s central contract after his stellar show in Australia. The 21-year-old has also taken 20 catches in the first three Tests against Australia with 11 in the first match in Adelaide.
Timesnownews.com cited agency reports to say that Pant could be back into the list though it remains to be seen in which category he eventually fits. There are four contracts as of now – A+, A, B and C.
Pant was offered a contract by the BCCI for the 2017-18 season but he was dropped from the central contract list next year. His doors were opened after Wriddhiman Saha sustained an injury, Parthiv Patel and Dinesh Karthik failed to impress in the Tests. Pant got his chances in England last year where he not only caught a fair number of catches but also hit a hundred in just his third Test at the Oval.
