Rishabh Pant credits Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting for his success in the IPL

Rishabh Pant has had an on and off international career so far. However, the young player has found tremendous success in the Indian Premier League so far. He has been one of the top players of the Delhi franchise. In fact, he holds the record for scoring the most runs in a season by any Delhi player.

Recently during an interaction, Pant opened about how former Delhi Capitals mentor Sourav Ganguly helped him during his stint with the franchise. Ganguly, who now is the BCCI President, has been relieved of the duty of Capitals’ mentor.

Talking about Ganguly, Pant said that the former Indian captain always wanted him to do well. Pant revealed that Ganguly told him a few things which he tried and it helped him.

“You need to give yourself some time and then you can do whatever you want to do. He always wanted me to do well. He told me a few things and I tried them also. It helped,” Pant said during an Instagram live session.

Rishabh Pant recalls his best IPL season

Talking about the 2018 season, Pant said that it was a life-changing tournament for him. The Delhi wicketkeeper-batsman scored 684 runs in that season at an average of 52.61. His strike rate was 173.60. He also scored five fifties and one century during that tournament.

“That was a life-changing season for me. I needed that breakthrough which everyone needs,” Pant said.

The keeper-batsman also said that the franchise is eager to win their first IPL trophy. He said the core group of players of the franchise does think about winning the IPL. He pointed out the side came third in the 2019 season and have come close to winning a title.

“The core group always thinks of winning IPL for Delhi. We qualified for the knockouts last time and came third”, the 22-year-old said.

Rishabh Pant also talked about the Delhi Captain head coach Ricky Ponting. He revealed that the Australian great gives him the license to play whichever he wants to do. The left-handed batsman surely enjoys this bond with the coach. “He gives me a free hand. He says do whatever you want to do,” Pant revealed.
