Rishabh Pant is the left-handed Sehwag says coach
“We call him as the left-handed Sehwag here in our club," Sinha said.
19-year-old Rishabh Pant is having a great Indian Premier League season with the Delhi Daredevils. After an exceptional domestic season, the dashing left-handed batsman has certainly justified all the praise he has been accoladed with lately.
When speaking of the most successful coaches in India, Tarak Sinha’s name comes amongst the first few. His academy has produced many exciting talents, amongst which 11 have gone on to wear the national jersey and make the nation proud, including Surinder Khanna, Shikhar Dhawan and Pant.
The youngster’s coach said that the innings of 97 runs against Gujarat Lions was the best by him till date. He also praised his exceptional knocks in the Under 19 ICC World Cup. According to Sinha, he grabbed the opportunity to bat at number 3 with both hands. He believes that he can be an asset for the Delhi side.
Rishabh was batting down the order for Delhi, at number 6, which had raised several questions. But following Zaheer Khan’s injury, Karun Nair took the responsibility of opening the innings alongside Sanju Samson, and the southpaw has been sent in at number three.
“We call him as the left-handed Sehwag here in our club. Not only playing well in the T-20 format, the left-handed batsman will have to equally perform well in the ODI games and in the Test matches”, said an exuberant Sinha while talking to Xtratime.in.
Sinha further said that he can do more wonders for the side from the capital of India if he is allowed to open the innings. According to him, Pant must be given the chance to face more deliveries, in order to wreak havoc for Delhi.
At such a tender age, he has an excellent hand-eye coordination and is a brilliant reader of the game. He also has got a great hitting capability, which makes him more valuable. Initially termed as junior ‘Yuvraj’, he is now being compared to Virender Sehwag for his policy ‘if it is a bad delivery, it is meant to be hit’. He is also a good player of the on-side, just like Sehwag.
Sinha feels that he has to continue his good run of form in ODI’s as well, to become an asset not only for Delhi but for India as well.
