Rishabh Pant is one of the most talented youngsters in the country currently. He has made his debut for the Indian team but had little to do on his debut. He has been fantastic in the domestic season as well but recently the 20-year-old has been struck with a damaging news.
His father Rajendra Pant sadly passed away on Wednesday night and it came as a shock to him. Rishabh upon hearing the news flew to Haridwar the next morning to perform the last rites of his father. According to Sportskeeda, an official close to the IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils said that Pant could take his time off and come back whenever he wants.
However, Rishabh came back the very next day. He joined the Delhi Daredevils camp on Friday night as they play Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday evening. Paddy Upton, who looks after the mental health of all the players from Delhi Daredevils said that Rishabh will need help. Something like this can have deep impact on anybody and everyone has to be thoughtful of his personal and family situation.
Upton said, “Something like this is obviously going to affect him in the medium and long term. We just have to be mindful and supportive of his personal situation and family situation.”
He also said that the whole team needs to get behind Pant and they need to make him feel at home as this is the hardest time for anyone. The support should not only be for the next couple of days but it should be there throughout the Indian Premier League as he is pretty young to swallow such a big loss.
“(He’s a) young man. So, we’re going to really need the whole team to rally around him to give him a lot of support not only over the next couple of days but throughout the IPL,” explained Upton.
Paddy Upton who was with the Indian team during the 2011 world cup win was right about the situation. Rishabh will be very emotional throughout the campaign and might need the support.
