Rishabh Pant continues to divide opinions with his highly-risky batting technique. His batting is exciting and adventurous but very risky at the same time. While he has impressed many with his aggressive batting style, he has also faced criticism from many for the same. Pant has also done little so far to justify his style and give an answer to the critics.

He had a disastrous T20I and ODI series against West Indies. The left-hander faced severe criticism for the way he threw his wickets on most of the occasions against the Caribbean outfit. Pant is definitely seen as the next big thing in Indian cricket but he really needs to deliver quickly in order to justify the hype surrounding him.

And as Rishabh Pant continues his struggles in ODIs and T20Is, former India batsman Virender Sehwag gave him some words of wisdom. Sehwag, on Wednesday, said that the youngster needs to work on his shot selection to perform well in the limited-overs format. Sehwag backed him to serve the country for long on the condition that the southpaw improves his shot selection.

“Pant has played well in the Test matches. He has to settle himself in the limited-overs game. He has to work on his shot-selection and then he will serve the country for long,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by the New Indian Express..

MS Dhoni at number four

For the time being, it looks like India will persist with Rishabh Pant at number four in the batting order. The spot has been a big concern for India for quite some time now. India have now put their faith in Pant. However, Sehwag believes experienced MS Dhoni will get a chance to bat at the crucial position.

“In recent times, there are many players like Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, and Manish Pandey who are tested for the number four position. According to me, experienced MS Dhoni will also be tested for the number four spot,” he said.

The former India opener also congratulated Ravi Shastri who has been appointed the head coach of the Indian cricket team for the second time. “I wish Shastri all the best for his second tenure. Although we lost the semi-final in the World Cup, I hope the team will do better in the T20 World Cup under his guidance,” Sehwag concluded.
