Rishabh Pant has played a handful of T20Is for India in which he has flattered to deceive. He was with the national team for the triangular series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. However, he strained in a couple of games following which the youngster was sidelined. With MS Dhoni’s return to form and Dinesh Karthik’s impressive run, Pant might have to wait for quite a while before he gets an opportunity again.
Nevertheless, the pugnacious potential hasn’t dropped the gun and is trying his heart out in the Indian Premier League to get himself back into contention for selection. The Uttarakhand-born cricketer is currently the leading run-scorer in the tournament where he is representing the Delhi Daredevils. He has scored 375 runs thus far in nine matches at an average of 41.66 and a scintillating strike rate of 180.28.
“Trying to do well”- Rishabh Pant
Meanwhile, the 20-year old wicketkeeper-batsman isn’t concerned about his national selection and is focusing on his performances in the IPL. “I am not thinking about that, I am just playing the IPL right now and trying to do well in every game for my team,” Pant was quoted as saying by the media.
The Daredevils find themselves in a precarious position with three wins in nine matches. Though they have played some impressive cricket in their last three matches, the task of qualifying for the playoffs remains to be an uphill task for them. Pant also talked about the things that went wrong for the franchise in the early part of the event.
“Everything has been fine from our side even before, we were batting brilliant in all the games but there were small mistakes in every match and things were not going our way. That did not happen today and we won. We need to have clear plans and stick to our plans and know what to do and kind of back ourselves. That’s it,” the middle-order batsman added.
