India’s young cricketer Rishabh Pant took to Twitter to send his birthday wishes to former India opener Virender Sehwag. He is all set to make his ODI debut when India take on the Windies in the first of five ODIs in Guwahati on Sunday. The youngster also recently made his Test debut during India’s tour of England. He was brought into the side to replace wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik.
Rishabh Pant has announced himself to the international stage in style. His second ball in Test cricket was a massive six over mid-on off Adil Rashid. Having played five Test matches, the 21-year old has already scored a Test century and came agonizingly close to the three-figure mark on two subsequent occasions. Although his keeping technique has been criticized, everyone knows his destructive ability with the bat. Pant will not don the gloves for India in the ODIs, but hopefully, for the Men in Blue, he will play the role of the finisher.
Wishes pour in for Viru on his birthday
As Virender Sehwag turned 40, the entire cricketing fraternity sent their personalized wishes to the former opening batsman. Hailed as one of the best the world has produced, Sehwag was known for providing fabulous starts at the top of the order. He nonchalantly smashed the ball to the fence, and when on song, he was every bowler’s nightmare. Viru also joined the select club of batsmen to have scored a double century in ODI cricket after he blasted his way to 219 against the Windies in 2011 at Indore.
On the occasion of his birthday, Rishabh Pant tweeted, “Janamdin Mubarak Viru Bhaiya @virendersehwag You are an inspiration to so many of us! Spread the good cheer always!”, to which the birthday boy replied, “Thank you Rishabh. Keep shining. Wish you the very best always”
