Watch: Manoj Tiwary and Gautam Gambhir get involved in yet another verbal altercation
For both Gambhir and Tiwary, though, it seems unlikely for a friendship to develop now.
Two times champions Kolkata Knight Riders took on the Steve Smith led Rising Pune Supergiant at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Wednesday night. The Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise got the better of the hosts to regain their No. 1 spot on the points table.
A blazing partnership between captain Gautam Gambhir (62 from 46) and Robin Uthappa (87 from 47). took the visitors to a 7-wicket victory over Pune. However, more than Gambhir’s half-century in the match, which also brought the orange cap to him, it is his verbal altercation with Pune’s Manoj Tiwary which is making headlines.
Gautam and Manoj, who have previously played together for KKR, got involved in a verbal spat during the match. The incident took place in the 15th when Gambhir was blazing his way to a splendid knock and was seen uttering something to Tiwary.
The Bengal-lad too was seen responding and the chat between the two continued for some time. The relationship between both the players is known to be stained for quite a few years now. Both were previously involved in a spat during a Rani Trophy game between Delhi and Bengal at the Feroz Shah Kotla in 2015.
In the auctions for IPL 2016, Tiwary, who hit the winning runs in IPL 2012 for KKR was not retained by the franchise and went unsold. However, IPL 2017 has been a revelation of sorts for the Bengal batsman who recently lost his father to cancer.
In his first game, Tiwary along with Ben Stokes put up a 62-run stand to help Rising Pune Supergiant reach a competitive score. In the next game, he made 31 in a losing cause against the Gujarat Lions. Against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, he made 27 much-needed runs to help his side reach 160.
For both Gambhir and Tiwary, though, it seems unlikely for a friendship to develop.
