The Road Safety World Series has given a platform for the retired legends and icons of the game to prove themselves on the field in the second innings of their lives. Renowned players including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Jonty Rhodes, Herschelle Gibbs, Virender Sehwag, etc. grabbed the opportunity beautifully and succeeded in taking the passionate cricket fans back in time during the inaugural edition.

Meanwhile, it has been officially confirmed that the RSWS is happening in 2022 as well. At one point, the future of this tournament looked bleak but now, all the speculations have been laid to rest and the second edition of the competition is reportedly scheduled to be played in India in early summer at multiple venues across the country from the last week of February to the last week of March.

Hyderabad and Lucknow among four venues

“The organizers are looking for a window during the early part of the Indian summer to hold the second edition of the Road Safety World Series in at least four cities in India – Hyderabad, Vishakhapatnam, Lucknow, and Indore. Though the final schedule is yet to be closed, you can expect to see the legends in action again in the next couple of months,” said a source as quoted by MyKhel.

“The organizers and local administrations in these cities are also keeping a close watch on the current Covid scenario in the country to decide whether fans can be allowed in the stadium during the event. A final call on this will be taken at a later stage depending on the prevailing situation at that time,” the source added.

The first edition witnessed the participation of the retired cricketers from India, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa, Australia, Bangladesh, and the West Indies. The cricket tournament which is played in the T20 format has been organized to provide awareness on road safety apart from nostalgia.

The Sachin Tendulkar-led India Legends were crowned the champions of the inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series last year after getting the better of Sri Lanka Legends by 14 runs in the decider. Though it remains to be seen if Sachin will feature in this edition as reports emerged recently of him not playing in the tournament.
