Road Safety World Series T20 to be held in Raipur; Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and other legends set to return to action
Road Safety World Series T20 would see the return of big names in cricket world.
Cricket superstars of yesteryears such as Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Brian Lara, and Muttiah Muralitharan will be seen in action on the field once again. The legendary cricketers are all set to pick bats and balls soon in order to participate in the much-anticipated Road Safety World Series T20. The tournament is scheduled to be played in Raipur from March 2 to 21.
The first edition of the tournament was played last year. It was a big hit among the fans but had to be called off prematurely on March 11 in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. But with the situation improving in the last one month or so, the organisers are all set to host the remaining matches of the first edition of the competition.
On Tuesday, the organisers of the Road Safety World Series T20 announced that all the remaining matches will be played in the newly-built 65,000 capacity Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.
“An array of stars including Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Brian Lara, Bret Lee, Tilakratne Dilshan, Muttiah Muralitharan and many more legends of five cricket playing nations – Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies and India will be back in the field to recreate the magic of old in the annual T20 cricket tournament, organized to create awareness towards road safety in the country,” a media release said.
“As cricket is the most followed sport in the country and cricketers are looked upon as idols, this League aims to influence and change people’s mindset towards their behaviour on the roads,” added the statement.
Matter of pride and honour to host Road Safety World Series T20 in Raipur: Chattisgarh CM
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel expressed his delight over the tournament being held in the state. Baghel said that it’s a matter of pride and honour for the state to host the legendary cricketers in the state for the Road Safety World Series. He also praised the motive of the tournament which is to spread awareness about road safety.
“It is a wonderful concept to create awareness about the menace, and a very important one given that one person dies every four minutes on Indian roads,” said Baghel.
Ravi Gaikwad, the founder of the Road Safety Series, also spoke about the tournament. He said that the series started with a lot of hope and promise last year to spread awareness towards road safety but had to be called off because of the prevailing situation.
“But, I am extremely glad to announce that we are here again, and I am thankful to all, the players, the officials, our broadcast partners and our large work-force who have come together to take the initiative forward in these difficult times,” he said.
