Cricket fans all across the globe should brace themselves for seeing their favourite cricket stars from yesteryears again playing on the cricket field and producing match-defining knocks with the willow and ball. The cricket legends from the past have decided to play a cricket tournament with an aim to create awareness among the people regarding Road Safety. The initiative was started by the Maharashtra government in March 2020.
The inaugural edition of the Road Safety World Series commenced on March 7, 2020 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with Indian Legends locking horns against West Indies Legends. The former had outplayed the latter by a massive 7 wickets as Virender Sehwag had played a sublime knock of 74 runs.
This was followed by three more games between Australia Legends and Sri Lanka Legends, Sri Lanka Legends and India Legends and West Indies Legends and South Africa Legends. However, the organizers had to take a hard call of postponing the marquee event for an indefinite time owing to the rise in the number of coronavirus cases in India.
Australia Legends to not participate in Road Safety World Series
Meanwhile, as things are settling back, the authorities have to decide to resume the Road Safety World Series from March 5, 2021, at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur with Bangladesh Legends up against India Legends. The event will be resumed from where it was left last year.
However, Australia Legends will not form a part of the noble cause as Brett Lee & Co. had to pull out due to their inability of travelling to India owing to the harsh travel restrictions by the Australian government in view of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
While the four teams namely India Legends, Sri Lanka Legends, West Indies Legends, and South Africa Legends will resume action, Bangladesh Legends and England Legends are the two new additions in the marquee event in the place of Australia Legends.
