Robin Uthappa has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ever since 2014 and has carved himself as an indispensable member of the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise. He wasn’t retained by the franchise is the Indian Premier League (IPL) retention ceremony, but they used the Right to Match (RTM) card on the 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman from Karnataka.

Prior to this season’s IPL, he was speculated to be the captain of the team, however, Dinesh Karthik was given the role and the same raised quite a few eyebrows. Nevertheless, the tournament didn’t turn out to be a memorable one for him as he couldn’t come into his own with the willow. The cricketer will now play for the Bengaluru Blasters in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL).

Uthappa answers in rapid-fire round

He replaced Karun Nair in this year’s auction of the event. His team will lock horns with Belagavi Panthers, which includes the likes of Manish Pandey and Stuart Binny. The Panthers are the defending champions. Prior to the tournament, Uthappa featured in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda where he was encountered with a rapid-fire question and answer round.

During the interaction, he was asked to choose his favourite captain among MS Dhoni and former cricketer Sourav Ganguly. He thought about it for a while and then named Dhoni as his favourite with a smile. Back in 2007, Uthappa was a part of the victorious Indian squad which won the T20 World Cup in South Africa under the leadership of the Jharkhand-born cricketer.

The 32-year-old also mentioned Andre Russell as his best buddy in the KKR team. Russell is currently playing for Jamaica Tallawahs in the Caribbean Premier League and Uthappa would definitely be happy by the way he has performed. The seasoned campaigner also named off-break bowler Harbhajan Singh as the biggest prankster in the Indian dressing room.
