Rohit Sharma and Yuvraj Singh spill beans on their first meeting
Rohit and Yuvraj have a contrasting story and the latter went on to say that MI skipper is exaggerating.
Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma might have been sharing a very strong camaraderie now but it was not always like this. In fact, things could have been very different if the first meeting between the two is considered. In a recent interview, the two opened up about their first interaction. The Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit recalled meeting with Yuvraj for the first time when he made his international debut.
Cut to their first meeting, Rohit met Yuvraj for the first time way back in 2007 when he made he earned his first international call-up. Rohit, in an interview with the Mumbai Indians TV, lifted the lid on what happened when he first came across Yuvraj. The right-handed batsman explained the details, revealing how Yuvraj was not at all friendly with him in the early days. Rohit revealed how Yuvraj had a specific seat in the team bus and no one was allowed to sit there.
Unaware of it, Rohit sat on that seat only to be told by Yuvraj to vacate it. The India vice-captain said that the ‘first few experiences were not so good’ as he revealed how things became awkward when Yuvraj found him sitting on that specific seat in the bus. Rohit was also quick to point out that although Yuvraj was not arrogant, there was always a feeling of attitude when he was around.
“Yuvi (Yuvraj) to me has always been like a big brother. Although the first few experiences were not so good. So Yuvi always has a spot on the bus where he goes and sits. And I was sitting there and that’s when I and Yuvi had a little bit of… I won’t say argument, but we had an eye-to-eye contact,” said Rohit.
“Not that he was arrogant but obviously he’s Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj Singh means attitude and all that,” he added.
Yuvraj’s side
Yuvraj, however, rubbished Rohit Sharma’s claims as he revealed his side of the first meeting. The veteran batsman, who was one of the biggest names in the game when Rohit made his India debut, insisted that he politely told Rohit about the seat. Yuvraj also said that Rohit tells that story by adding too much spice in it.
“I remember when he came in the team and I shook hands with him. How he tells the story is that I told him, ‘Do you know whose seat is this?’ I didn’t say it like that. I just said, ‘Rohit that’s my seat, I would like to sit there’. He tells this story with too much extra spice,” said Yuvraj.
Mumbai Indians, meanwhile, will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings in the IPL final. While Rohit is eyeing his fourth IPL title as captain and fifth overall, Yuvraj is looking to lay his hands on the trophy for the second time.
