Rohit Sharma breaks Sir Don Bradman's 71-year-old record in Tests

Rohit created new records with his maiden Test double.

With India already leading the series by 2-0, they are playing the final Test against visitors in Ranchi. The players of the hosting nation look in their top-notch form, but Rohit Sharma has successfully attracted the spotlight towards him in this series. Ahead of the series, Team India was in search of a better opener in the longer format and Rohit emerged as their solution. In the first Test, he scored twin tons and also missed his maiden double in the first innings by 24 runs. Who knew that he will get his double in Ranchi Test.

Rohit Sharma in remarkable form

During the opening game of the series, Mumbai-born player broke multiple records but one of the biggest achievements for him came in the final match of the series when he broke a record of Sir Don Bradman. Rohit got out at a score of 212 runs but before getting out he surpassed the record of Sir Don Bradman for having the highest Test average at home.

Rohit’s Test average at home is highest amongst the players who have played a minimum of 10 innings. After playing an astonishing knock of 212 runs he is now having a Test average of 99.84 on home soil. Earlier, Don Bradman had an average of 98.22 in 50 innings at home with 4322 runs.

32-year-old is also became the third Indian to score a double century in all formats after Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. He also recorded the highest fourth-wicket partnership against South Africa of 267 runs along with Ajinkya Rahane and rescued India from the top-order collapse of Day-1.

Team India declared their innings after posting a mammoth total of 497/9 declared. Towards the end, Umesh Yadav played entertaining cameo with his willow that included 5 sixes in 10 balls he faced before giving away his wicket to George Linde at his individual best of 31 runs. Rahane also got his 11th International ton of his career.

At the time of the filing of this news, South Africa was playing at a score of 114 runs at loss of 5 wickets. Indian bowlers had got a firm grip on Proteas batsmen’s after they scalped the important wickets of Quinton de Kock, Dean Elgar and skipper Faf du Plessis.
