Rohit Sharma edges closer to Virat Kohli in ICC ODI Player Rankings post fifty in 1st WI ODI

India’s limited-overs captain and opener Rohit Sharma has got closer to his former Indian skipper Virat Kohli in terms of ratings in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings for batters. Rohit struck a valiant 60 in the first ODI against West Indies and it took him to 807 rating points at the third position in the ICC rankings while Kohli is at 828 points at second. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam still holds the number one position for the ICC Men’s ODI rankings for batters.
Meanwhile, West Indies’ most consistent batter Shai Hope who averages above 50 in the ODI format has also lost points after a failure in the first game and has slipped out of the top 10 rankings. Fakhar Zaman and Joe Root have made their way into the top ten rankings for batters in ODIs. The other notable improvement in rankings was for Oman’s Jatinder Singh, who is currently playing in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2, has moved into the top 100 rankings after a century recently.
In the all-rounder rankings, Jason Holder has moved into the top 20 by moving four places up after his fifty in the first ODI against India. There was no change in the top ten for ICC Men’s ODI Rankings for bowlers. Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen are the two batters from South Africa in the top 10 while, Australian openers Aaron Finch and David Warner still hold their places in the top 10.

Rohit led the Indian side for the first time as a full-time captain in ODIs and he could not have got a better time to do as India became the first-ever team to play 1000 ODIs on the same occasion in the first game against West Indies. West Indies managed just 176 on the board in their 50 overs and Yuzvendra Chahal‘s four-wicket haul proved to be decisive in getting the visitors restricted to a low score.
Rohit struck a 51 ball 60 at the top comprising of ten fours and one six and took the side to a flying start. He has been in great form off late despite missing out on games due to injury and will look to continue his dominance in the last few years.
