Rohit Sharma enters record books during Colombo T20I against Bangladesh
He managed to score a fine 89 to help team India enter the finals of the series.
Team India’s stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma was under tremendous pressure to perform when he walked in to bat in the fifth T20I against Bangladesh in the ongoing Nidahas Trophy 2018. A string of low scores was bothering the hard-hitting batsman for the last couple of months. Now, after the game, he is a man with relief.
He managed to score a fine 89 to help team India enter the finals of the series. En route his magnificent effort, Rohit Sharma broke a few records too. During the 61-ball knock, Rohit hit as many as 5 sixes in his innings.
With that effort, he now has 75 sixes to his name in the shortest format of the game at the highest level. He surpassed Yuvraj Singh’s tally of 74 sixes to top the list of most sixes hit by an Indian in the T20Is. Suresh Raina, who scored 47 runs in the same game, has 54 sixes in the shortest format of the game.

However, when seen on a broader scale, Rohit Sharma still has a long way to go. He is ranked 8th in the list of batsmen to have scored most numbers of sixes in the world. Windies opener Chris Gayle, who is currently playing in the World Cup Qualifiers, has 103 sixes to his name. He tops the list along with New Zealand hard-hitting opener Martin Guptill. Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum has 91 sixes to his tally in the list.

Satisfied with the knock
After the game, Rohit conceded that he indeed feels good about the knock that he played. It was a long time coming. He remarked that the pitch was not the easiest to bat on and hence, he decided to take his time to set in. “The pitch wasn’t the usual wicket, and the ball was gripping. It wasn’t easy to hit on the up as well, so I decided to take some time getting set,” Rohit quoted.
