Rohit Sharma explains why he doesn’t believe in ‘talent’
In the absence of Virat Kohli for the Asia Cup, Rohit will be leading the defending champions.
The proximity between fans and their favourite celebrities from any field has become much closer ever since the advent of social media. Joining this bandwagon was Rohit Sharma, who conducted a question and answer session on Twitter, wherein he was questioned on why he hates the word ‘talent’. Ever since Rohit made his international debut in 2007, he has been called the most naturally gifted Indian batsman since Sachin Tendulkar.
While that is a huge compliment, the batsman is also equally trolled every time he fails to deliver. For Rohit, however, there is nothing as being naturally gifted and it is all about years of hard work, dedication and commitment. Replying to why he hates the word talent, Rohit wrote, “Because I’m not talented, I worked for everything I have”.
Here is the tweet and Rohit’s response:
A prolific performer
Whether lucky, naturally gifted or hard working, the fact is that Rohi has come a long way to cement himself in the national team in the limited-overs format. He also has some amazing records under his belt – the highest individual ODI score — 264 (against Sri Lanka in 2014) and he is the only batsman in the history of ODI cricket to score three ODI double tons. Ever since his debut, the Mumbai batsman has amassed 6748 ODI runs from 183 matches at an average of 44.99 and strike-rate of 87.18.
He was also very instrumental in India’s 2007 ICC World T20I and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy title wins. In the Indian Premier League too, he is one of the most prolific batsmen and as a skipper, guided Mumbai Indians to three IPL trophies, the only team to do so. In the absence of Virat Kohli for the Asia Cup, Rohit will be leading the defending champions.
