Fans of any sport are the ones who make the game what it is. They constitute an indispensable part and there’s no denying the fact that every sportsperson is grateful to them for their support especially in the gloomy times. Cricket is no different and the fan following that most of Indian cricketers have across the world is almost unbelievable. They are on their part humble and do their best to meet, sign autographs and also pose for pictures.
In line with the same, Indian captain for the Nidahas Trophy 2018, Rohit Sharma displayed a gracious gesture towards one of his beloved fans from the Island nation. Being a man of his word, Hitman kept his promise to Mohammed Milan to visit the latter’s house on his visit to Sri Lanka amidst the ongoing tour.
Rohit did a gentlemen act
The story takes us back to December 2017 when Sri Lanka toured India, that was when Rohit met a teary-eyed Milan who was in desperate need of money when he got to know the news about his ailing father suffering from Cancer back in Sri Lanka. It was then Rohit who helped Milan arrange for the air tickets and the money to ensure the son was with his father in the needful times.
“Rohit is clean-hearted guy,” Nilam was quoted as saying by Indian Express. “I still remember the day when I got a call from my family that my father is not feeling well. Frankly, I didn’t have any money then and didn’t know anyone else also in India. The last moment flights are expensive, so Rohit got to know from Sudhir (the Sachin Tendulkar fan) and he called me to hotel. He handed me the tickets and money. Who will do this in today’s time?” he added.
The bond that Nilam shares with the Indian cricketers defines that the game certainly has no boundaries and he now has a soft corner for Rohit. “It’s not that only Rohit knows me in the Indian team, I know everyone but everybody knows that my loyality towards Rohit is more than other players. If Sudhir is known as Tendulkar fan, I am known as Rohit’s number one fan,” Nilam said.
Hitman mentions the role of such fans
Sharma has always tried to do his bit and knows the role of such die-hard fans who are always by their side .”These are the people who make who we are today. They are the ones who pray for you, they stand beside you in your bad times, “Rohit said.
In order to fulfill his promise, “I had told him in December that if I come to Sri Lanka this March for series, I will come to his house to see his father. Today, I could feel the happiness they got seeing me, ” he mentioned. “I know him (Nilam) for many years now. He has cheered for me for so long now. I still remember he was crying a day after the Test in India, telling me how his father was not feeling well, ” Rohit added.
