The Indian cricket team has been churning out all-round performances in the on-going Asia Cup being played in the UAE. India’s stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma, who is leading the team from the front in absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli, heaped praises on the Indian bowlers, especially Jasprit Bumrah, for their disciplined bowling in the ongoing Asia Cup, and especially in the game against Pakistan on Sunday, which India won by 9 wickets.

The Indian bowlers restricted Pakistan to 162 in the first game and 237 in the second game, while bowling out Bangladesh for 173. India are now into the finals and await the result of the virtual semi-final between Pakistan and Bangladesh to know who they will face off in the summit clash.

“Bumrah is a matured bowler now. He has played great amount of cricket and understands his bowling. I think that’s very important for any individual. Bumrah understands what field he needs to set and knows how to keep it tight. Bhuvi also did the same,” Rohit said.

“The entire bowling unit stuck to their task and hats off to them. Repeated performances are challenging in these conditions and I don’t want to take any credit away from bowlers,” he added.

On his partnership with Shikhar Dhawan

Rohit, who stitched a 210-run stand for the opening wicket with Shikhar Dhawan on Sunday, now has 13 opening partnerships with him. Rohit said that batting with Dhawan becomes easy with both of them being clear about their roles.

“With Shikhar, I don’t need to talk much. It’s important to let him be himself. We have batted enough to know each other to start off like that and we clearly know our roles. We always knew that the new batsman will find it difficult to keep going straightaway and Shikhar and I knew it.”

The final of the tournament will be played on Friday, with Bangladesh and Pakistan fighting it out for the spot of the second finalists.
