Jasprit Bumrah, the Indian fast bowler, isn’t a part of the national team for the second Test against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He played the opening Test at the same venue but was replaced by Mohammed Siraj the next time around. The decision to sideline the right-arm pacer raised a lot of eyebrows in the cricketing fraternity.
In the meantime, Rohit Sharma, who scored a magnificent ton in the first innings, was involved in a hilarious incident. Ahead of the second day’s play, the BCCI uploaded a video where Rohit forgot that Bumrah isn’t a part of the current Test. By the close of play, India had lost six wickets. Rohit said that while Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel were in the middle, Bumrah was yet to bat.
But he realised the error and corrected himself. Ishant also told him that Bumrah isn’t a part of the playing eleven. Ajinkya Rahane, who’s also in the video, saw the funny side of the gaffe. He said, “Bumrah aa gaye naam sunte hi (Jasprit Bumrah has arrived after hearing his name).”

Kohli talks about Jasprit Bumrah’s omission
Earlier, Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper, put forth the reasons why Bumrah was rested. “We need to manage workloads as well, understanding how much cricket we have got to play in the next few months. We need to have our players fit and ready. Not take them to the brink of breaking down,” Kohli was quoted as saying.
Gautam Gambhir and Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricketers, also opined on Bumrah’s exclusion. Even as Gavaskar couldn’t comprehend the move, Gambhir felt that giving Bumrah adequate rest was a sensible call on India’s part.
“I don’t quite understand the decision to rest Bumrah, especially considering there’s a 7-day break between the second Test and the third. These are not the cricketers of the past but belong to a generation of players that is supremely fit,” Gavaskar stated.
“I think it is a good decision to rest him. He will be ready to go in the pink-ball Test match. There is nothing for the fast bowlers here and he has bowled a lot of overs in Australia and the first Test match, so I think it was a very good decision from the team management’s point of view,” Gambhir said.
