Rohit Sharma scored a splendid century on Day 3.
The ongoing fourth Test between England and India has already seen several twists and turns and it will be interesting to see how the remaining contest unfolds. While England were a tad ahead after the first two matches, India came back from behind and gained command on Day 3. The remarkable comeback was scripted by India’s top order which made England bowlers work hard.
Veteran opener Rohit Sharma (127) was the undisputed star of the day as he slammed a sensational hundred. This was Rohit’s first century in overseas Test matches and the cricket fraternity was mighty impressed. Besides him, Cheteshwar Pujara also played a valiant 61 to tighten India’s grip further. Overall, the duo added 153 runs for the second wicket. Notably, this is the same track where the visitors got bundled out for 191 in the first innings. However, Rohit and Pujara put up a batting exhibition in the third innings, leaving fans and experts in awe.
Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was also among many to praise the duo. Taking to Twitter, the Master Blaster asserted Rohit has been one of the finest batters in this series. The veteran also mentioned he always had faith in Pujara’s abilities.
Rohit Sharma has taken his batting a notch higher in this series: Sachin Tendulkar
“A solid partnership between @ImRo45 & @cheteshwar1 yesterday. Like I had said earlier, Rohit has taken his batting a notch higher in this series & has looked amongst the most comfortable batsmen at the crease. And with Pujara, I have always believed in him to come good,” he tweeted alongside posting a couple of pictures from the game.
Meanwhile, India finished the third day at 270/3, earning a lead of 171 runs. With two days left and seven wickets in hand, the visitors must back themselves to post a substantial total on this track. The likes of Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and Shardul Thakur are yet to be dismissed. Hence, England bowlers have some job in hand.
Notably, stakes are incredibly high in the ongoing Test at the Kennington Oval in London. The series, after the first three games, is perfectly poised at 1-1. Hence, the winner of this contest would take an unassailable 2-1 lead.
