Rohit Sharma was the talking point on Monday evening as he was not named in any of India’s squads for the upcoming Australia tour. The Board of Control for Cricket in India, however, later cleared in a tweet that its medical team is monitoring his progress. Rohit sustained a hamstring injury during the game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) and hasn’t played a couple of games since then.
Soon after the squads were announced, Rohit Sharma’s availability for the rest of the IPL season came under the cloud. However, if the sources are to be believed now, the Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper is likely to take the field on November 3, the last league game of the IPL against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Even MI’s latest social media posts showing Rohit batting in the nets have raised several doubts over his non-selection.
It seems that the selectors want more clarity over Rohit Sharma’s match fitness before picking him and once he features in the last week of IPL, he might also be added in all of India’s squad for Australia tour. “If Rohit can play during the last week of IPL, that will be a good enough fitness test and then selectors can think of getting him back in the squad,” a source close to the cricketer said according to Outlook.
KL Rahul being looked at as India first choice keeper in ODIs and T20Is
It was a brilliant day for KL Rahul as his Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) team registered his fifth consecutive win in the IPL 2020 while the man himself made his comeback to India’s Test squad. Rather he has been elevated as vice-captain in ODIs and T20Is in Rohit Sharma’s absence. Moreover, giving more clarity over his role, the selectors have picked only Rahul as the wicket-keeper in the 50-over format dropping Rishabh Pant altogether.
“Rahul is being looked as India’s first choice white-ball keeper till the 2021 World T20 and beyond. Also he has impressed everyone with his leadership skills and that’s why this elevation as vice-captain,” the source further added.
