Team India Test skipper Virat Kohli has heaped praises on ODI and T20I skipper, Rohit Sharma, and head coach, Rahul Dravid, saying that he’ll support the duo to the best of his abilities for the betterment of Indian cricket. Over the last two months, Indian cricket has witnessed quite a few change in personnel, both in the team and in the support staff.
Even as Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri as their head coach after the T20 World Cup 2021, the Nagpur-born Sharma has taken over from Kohli as India’s limited-overs skipper. Of late, reports of rifts between Kohli and Rohit have been doing the rounds. However, the 33-year-old Kohli dismissed the speculations and said that he’ll lend Rohit support.
Virat praised Rohit for leading teams with a lot of precision both at the international level and in the Indian Premier League. It’s pertinent to note that Sharma is the most successful skipper in the history of the IPL, having led Mumbai Indians to five titles.
Rohit is a very able captain, says Virat Kohli
“My responsibility is obviously to push the team in the right direction, something that I wanted to do even before I became captain. That mindset will never change. Rohit is a very able captain, a very tactically sound captain. We have seen that in the games for India and in the IPL as well,” Kohli was quoted as saying, India Today reported.
Kohli also had words of appreciation for Rahul Dravid, who started his coaching tenure with T20I and Test series wins over New Zealand. The veteran said that his job will be to help the team with all the experience he has garnered over the years.
“Rahul Bhai is a very, very balanced coach, a great manager. Both of them will have absolute support in whatever vision they set for the team. I will be there 100 percent. I will be the guy who can push the team in the right direction,” he added.
Kohli is now set to lead India in the three-match Test series against South Africa, starting December 26 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Rohit, in the meantime, has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury.
