Team India has landed in Australia and for the first time, they are the overwhelming favourites to win in the country. They are coming with three consecutive T20 International victories over the World Champions Windies and will begin their tour down under with the same number of matches in the shortest format. While all the eyes are on Virat Kohli who is on a record-breaking spree at the moment, Glenn Maxwell is aware of Rohit Sharma’s threat during the series across all the three forms of the game.
The vice-captain of the Indian captain loves the ball coming on the bat and the way he tackles the bouncy Australian pitches, has earned him a Test spot as well. On the last tour to Australia, Rohit had racked runs for fun though his team lost the five-match series by 4-1.
Meanwhile, Maxwell, while speaking to Direct Hit (Australian website), was all praise of the Hitman and felt that his exemplary technique to play aerial shots makes him one of the best players in the World.
His shots are effortless
His (Rohit) effortless hitting and he seems to have a lot more time than other players. He makes it look so easy and I suppose that’s the joy of watching him. The game always looks easy when he is out there batting. He’s good against pace and spin and hits the ball a mile when he wants to,” Maxwell said.
Himself being swashbuckler, Glenn Maxwell called Rohit Sharma an absolute star of the Indian cricket and hailed him for his two double-centuries in the ODI format. “He’s an absolute star in limited-overs cricket. To get multiple double hundreds is not a mean feat in One-Day cricket. This guy, you can’t stop him. He’s quite relaxed, chilled and laid back and he doesn’t let things phase him, that’s for sure,” the 30-year-old added.
Rohit will be in action against Maxwell and Aussies on November 21 in the first of the three-match T20I series and it will be interesting to see how the hosts tackle him.
