Windies stretched Team India during the ODI series which, in a way, worked wonders for the Men in Blue. They weren’t expecting the tourists to beat them in the limited-overs tussle but their performance in Pune and Vizag cornered the hosts. Their proud home record was at stake and they came out all guns blazing in the last two matches. Khaleel Ahmed was one of the stars for the Indian team who went on to pick five wickets in the final two outings of the series.
Even the skipper Virat Kohli was delighted to see him improve so quickly and singled out the youngster as one of the two huge positives for the team. Having a left-arm seamer is a liberty for any side as he brings the much-needed variety to the attack. Even the selectors have cleared that they are looking at Khaleel to play the World Cup next year and the upcoming games will be crucial for him.

After getting the skipper’s nod, Khaleel Ahmed is also getting vice-captain Rohit Sharma’s backing it seems. The energy he brings to the field was quite evident during the series and the 20-year-old’s temperament will be surely tested in Australia and New Zealand. Khaleel currently has 11 wickets to his name after playing 6 matches in the ODI format and with more than 10 games before the showpiece event, is one of the potential players to travel to England for the World Cup.

The selectors are keen on giving Khaleel Ahmed more game time it seems. He has been picked in the T20I squad as well. Given his recent performances, the youngster will certainly make an appearance during the three-match T20I series against the Windies which is set to commence on November 4. All the eyes will be on him at the iconic Eden Gardens when Khaleel takes the field on Sunday.
