All’s not well with Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian top-order batsman. Prior to the 2019 edition of the World Cup in England and Wales, the left-hander was speculated to play a pivotal role. He didn’t make a great start as in the warm-ups and got out in the single-digit scores. Even in India’s first match of the main round against South Africa in Southampton, Dhawan got out to speedster Kagiso Rabada.
However, the Delhi-born made amends in the second match versus Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. He scored a masterful century against Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. The knock helped his team post 352 on the board and win the match by 36 runs. However, amidst the happy times, the 33-year-old Dhawan copped a blow on his thumb from fast bowler Pat Cummins.
The southpaw thereafter went for scans on Tuesday and to his disappointment, it was learned that he had developed a hairline fracture on his thumb. Subsequently, he has been ruled out for around three weeks. On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named the 21-year-old Rishabh Pant as Dhawan’s cover for the 50-overs tournament.
A determined Shikhar Dhawan
After developing the injury, Dhawan was undoubtedly disappointed but sounded confident. He has been a fulcrum of the Indian limited-overs team for quite a few years and would’ve wished to weave his magic in the upcoming few matches. He posted a popular Shayari from Rahat Indori, an Indian poet Bollywood lyricist. He uploaded a picture where the team’s physio was treating him after he got hit.
It read, “Kabhi mehek ki tarah hum gulon se udte hain… Kabhi dhuyein ki tarah hum parbaton se udte hain… Ye kainchiyaan humein udne se khaak rokengi… Ke hum paron se nahin hoslon se udte hain… #DrRahatIndori Ji,”
Here is Dhawan’s post
In the meantime, Rohit Sharma, who scored a century versus the Proteas at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, made a hilarious reply on Dhawan’s post. Asking his opening partner to stop, the 32-year-old wrote, “Bas kar yar (Stop it man).”
