In the wake of the heartbreaking end to the World Cup campaign, India vice-captain Rohit Sharma has returned home from England on Friday. The entire squad was scheduled to arrive in India on Sunday. However, Rohit Sharma decided to arrive in the country two days before his teammates. Rohit has had a historic campaign in the World Cup. The right-handed batsman did not look back since scoring a match-winning century against South Africa in India’s opening game.
With the passage of time, his form became better and better. By the time the group stage ended, Rohit Sharma had slammed five tons and a fifty in just eight outings. His form was one of the reasons why the Men in Blue finished the group stage at the top of the points table. No batsman had ever scored more than four tons in a single edition of the World Cup before Rohit registered five. The India star is still the highest run-scorer in the competition and looks set to finish at that position.
Rohit’s rare failure came against New Zealand in the semifinal. With India needing 240 runs to win and make it to the final, Rohit Sharma was out for just 1. Along with him, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli failed too to leave India 3 down for 5. A little later, they were six down for just 92. Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni scored fighting fifties but their efforts were not enough as India were all out for 221.
Rohit faces backlash
Two days after the disappointing loss, Rohit Sharma landed at the Mumbai airport. The right-handed batsman was accompanied by his wife, Ritika Sajdeh and daughter Samaira. He was seen taking the driver’s seat in his SUV amidst a sea of photographers.

As soon as the video surfaced on Instagram, the fans became busy in praising the opening batsman because of his performance in the World Cup. However, there were many who blasted him for failing to win the trophy. Some even slammed him for not having a convertible baby car seat for his daughter.
Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, will be next seen in action during the tour of West Indies. Media reports suggest that the selectors will rest some big names but Rohit is unlikely to be rested. India is set to travel to the West Indies to play three T20s, two Tests and three ODIs. The tour will begin with the T20I series on 3rd August, followed by the ODI and the Test series.
