Rohit Sharma lauds Prithvi Shaw for putting up a stellar show on his Test debut
He was dismissed by Bishoo but not before scoring 134 runs.
Prithvi Shaw became 293rd Test player for India today and he made it a memorable one for himself in Rajkot. The 18-year-old smashed an authoritative ton by punishing the Windies bowlers who offered him loose like a gift every now and then. Opening the innings for India along with KL Rahul, Shaw faced the first ball proving that he was confident to get going from the word go.
His superb batting earned the youngster a lot of praise from the cricketing fraternity and the latest to join the long list is Rohit Sharma who led India to its seventh Asia Cup title recently. He loved the way Shaw put up a show on his Test debut in Rajkot and lauded him for his efforts. The backfoot punches during the innings were a delight to watch and his footwork against the spinners was decisive which made him increasingly confident in the middle.
After losing his opening partner early, Prithvi Shaw stitched a 206-run partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara as Team India reached 133 runs for the loss of a solitary wicket in the first session.
The show continues in the post-lunch session
Shaw took the attack to the opponent’s specialist spinner Devendra Bishoo in the very first over after the lunch and cleared that he is not going to crawl to his first Test ton. He reached the three-figure mark easily in the end by taking a couple off the 99th delivery he faced. However, he got slow after the landmark and concentrated more on playing a long inning.
Prithvi was dismissed at 134 by Bishoo off an ordinary delivery as the ball turned a bit after getting stuck in the wicket. The batsman tried to punch the ball off the backfoot but eventually ended up hitting it straight back to the bowler. Though nothing could be taken away from Shaw for the way he played on his international debut.
Rohit Sharma was delighted for the youngster after scoring a ton and came up with a tweet for him which read, “Shaw what a show @PrithviShaw.”
