In a good piece of news for the Indian fans, permanent skipper Rohit Sharma has tested Covid-19 negative and is likely to feature in the upcoming white-ball series against the home team England. The regular India skipper missed the fifth and final Test match between the two powerhouses in the cricketing fraternity.
To note, both England and India will be involved in a three-match T20I series followed by the same number of 50-over fixtures. At present, both teams are giving their best in the rescheduled Test match at Edgbaston. While India needs to win or draw the match to grab the series, the Three Lions are required to win the match to level the series.
Rohit has tested negative and is out of quarantine: BCCI official
Meanwhile, despite coming out of isolation, Rohit Sharma is not part of the ongoing warm-up game against Northamptonshire. “Yes, Rohit has tested negative and as per medical protocols is now out of quarantine. However, he is not playing today’s T20 warm-up game against Northamptonshire as he will need some recovery time and training ahead of the first T20I,” a senior BCCI official said according to The Hindu.
It must be noted that this is Rohit’s first away assignment after being named as Indian captain and he will want to recover quickly and give his 100% with both bat and as a captain. The white-ball series will start with a three-match T20I series taking place from July 7 (Thursday) while the ODI series will commence from July 12 (Tuesday).
As for the warm-up games, the visitors won against Derbyshire in the first warm-up game pretty comfortably. The right-handed batter Deepak Hooda will look to continue his good form with the bat against Northamptonshire as well. Hooda is having a dream run for the India side after he was adjudged the Player for the Series for his excellent knocks against Ireland and will look to continue his good form with the bat ahead as well.
