India A are scheduled to play three unofficial Tests against New Zealand A, which gets underway on November 16. The opening match will be played at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. The remaining couple of matches will be hosted by Seddon Park in Hamilton and Cobham Oval in Whangarei. Indian batsman Rohit Sharma was also set to take part in the opening match.

The same was for the same that he was selected for India’s four-match Test series against Australia, starting December 6 at Adelaide Oval. He would be playing Test cricket after India’s tour of South Africa earlier this year when the 31-year-old was dropped following lacklustre shows in the first two Tests. Mumbai-born Ajinkya Rahane replaced him in Johannesburg.

Rohit to next play against Australia

In the meantime, it has been learned that the Nagpur-born batsman has been rested for the first-class match. He has been advised rest after consultation by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Medical Team and the All-India Senior Selection Committee. The decision was taken in order to manage his workload as per reports in BCCI’s official website.

Rohit has had an impressive time in limited-overs cricket. He captained the team in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against Windies and helped the Men in Blue to a series whitewash. He also managed to rack up his 11th victory as the captain in his 12th T20I. The seasoned campaigner was also incredible with the bat in hand and turned out to be a headache for the Windies.

In the second match in Lucknow, he smashed his fourth T20I ton and became the first batsman to accomplish the feat, surpassing New Zealand top order batsman Colin Munro. He is also tantalisingly close to becoming the leading run-scorer in T20Is. He would next be playing the three-match T20I series against Australia which starts on November 21 at The Gabba in Brisbane.
