The Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav has hogged all the limelight ever since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squads for the India tour of Australia comprising three-match ODI and T20I series followed by four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy. There has been a constant debate on whether Suryakumar should have been included in the Indian squad or not.
The 30-year-old was the highest run-getter at the number 3 batting position in the just-concluded 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Mumbaikar aggregated 480 runs in 15 innings at an average of 40. As Yadav didn’t get a chance in the Indian squad even after a brilliant performance, the batsman was dejected. The Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma now revealed how Surya dealt with the disappointment.
In an interview with Times of India, Rohit revealed that as the Indian squad was announced, the team was sitting in the team room and Surya was disappointed. However, instead of comforting him about the same, Rohit decided to give him the space to compose himself.

Rohit further reckoned that Yadav himself came to him and assured him that he will get over this phase and will continue winning matches for Mumbai Indians. Notably, MI lifted their fifth title in IPL 2020 after defeating Delhi Capitals in the final of the league.
“We were sitting in our team room and I could feel he was dejected. But I didn’t go and speak to him. It was he who came up and said, ‘Don’t worry I will get over it and win the matches for MI’,” Rohit Sharma said.

“And when he said that I also realised he is heading in the right direction not only in terms of IPL but in his overall career. There are a lot of India games and his time will come. If you ask me, my philosophy is mind over matter and that’s what works for me,” Rohit concluded.
