Rohit Sharma reveals why Ritika Sajdeh cried after he reached his third ODI double century

Ritika Sajdeh has been the constant support for Rohit Sharma in the stands whenever he plays for India and Mumbai Indians (MI). Moreover, she keeps her fingers crossed until her husband is in the middle and keeps appreciating him and the other players during the match. She enjoys Rohit pummelling the opposition bowlers. But Ritika was seen crying during Rohit’s record third ODI double-century knock in 2017.

It was the second ODI of the three-match series between India and Sri Lanka in Mohali. After being invited to bat first, the hosts rode on a great start from Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. While the latter and Shreyas Iyer slammed 68 and 88 runs respectively, the stand-in skipper for the series, Rohit, stole the show scoring a scintillating double-century in the final over of the innings.

This was a moment to cherish for all the Indian fans and it was even more special for the Sharma couple as it was their wedding anniversary. But the cameras caught Ritika crying while also applauding her husband’s efforts from the stands which surprised many. Rohit Sharma has now revealed the reason for the same stating that she thought he had twisted his arm diving while on 196.

Actually, in an attempt to steal an extra run, Rohit had dived to save himself from being run-out. “My wife got emotional while I reached the landmark. It was a special innings because it was our wedding anniversary and the best gift I could give her on that occasion. She was scared when I dived at 196 (197 to be precise). She thought I twisted my arm,” he said in the show Open Nets with Mayank Agarwal.

Rohit Sharma admits he was going slow in that game

Rohit Sharma also admitted that he was batting slowly and had rather reached his ton only in the 40th over of the innings. However, it was the crazy hitting from the Hitman since then that got him to his third score of more than 200.

“To be very honest I was going pretty slow, I never thought I will get to a double hundred but once you cross 125, I feel it gets easier for you because bowlers are under pressure. Unless you make a mistake I don’t think you can get out,” the 33-year-old further added.

As for the match, India posted a daunting total of 392 runs on the back of Rohit’s unbeaten 208. Sri Lanka couldn’t handle the pressure of steep asking rate and could only muster 251/8 in 50 overs to lose the game by 141 runs.
