India opener Rohit Sharma took to social media to share an emotional message as his mate Praveen Kumar announced retirement from all forms of the game. Kumar had announced last week that he would be hanging up his boots and will look to pursue a career in coaching. The veteran seam bowler had represented India in over 80 international matches and finished with 112 international wickets.

The paceman had made his debut for India in November 2007. The 32-year-old, who last played an international fixture in 2012, revealed that he will only turn out for ONGC in company cricket. Despite his natural ability to swing the ball and his knack of picking up wickets, he was able to represent India in the longest format only 6 times. However, during the span of his Test career, he picked up 27 wickets averaging a healthy 25.81.

PK’s career in a glimpse

He enjoyed a particularly successful series against England back in 2011, although India were battered 0-4 in the series. However, Praveen was mysteriously left out of the Test side thereafter and never got another opportunity to don the whites.

Although his Test prospects remained unexplored, some of his most memorable performances for India came in the 50-overs format. Kumar played 68 ODIs for India, during which he picked up a total of 77 wickets, with career-best figures of 4 for 31. He claimed a four-wicket haul in the second final of the 2008 CB Series against the Australians, bowling India to a rare but emphatic series win Down Under, a tournament in which \\ Sharma also played an important role.

Rohit’s emotional tweet read, “We almost started at the same time playing for the country, lots of fun, laugh and good cricket. I cannot forget his spell in CB series 2nd final, it was magical. To a brother, friend and a team mate have a good retirement buddy @praveenkumar”
