The legendary Kevin Pietersen is a passionate advocate of wildlife and the environment and runs his own foundation to support the well-being of animals, especially the Rhinoceros, which is under huge threat of extinction. Pietersen links cricketing activity to the brand for business development. Whatever money made from it is given as donation to wildlife charities in Africa and India.

The skipper of the Mumbai Indians Rohit Sharma is also endorsing the charity, as is seen from his latest post on Twitter. The batsman has posted a picture of himself with a bat, on which is stuck a small picture of a Rhino. “This sticker is in honour of every fallen friend in the name of ivory and a symbol of my support for the @SORAI2018 foundation. Nothing makes me happier than giving a voice to the voiceless,” wrote Sharma as a caption for his picture.

Rehabilitation of the Rhinos

Recently, the world’s last male northern white rhino passed away at Kenya’s Ol Pejeta Conservancy. At the time of his death, Sudan, as he was called, was one of only three living northern white rhinoceroses. The death has led to further encouragement to save the Rhinos.

“We are committed to rescue abandoned, injured, and orphaned rhinos and to rehabilitate them wherever possible. Through various organizations we enlist the help of veterinarians, nutritionists, ecologists, and other specialists, to ensure the successful rehabilitation and release of these animals.
SORAI (save our Rhino’s in Africa and India) is KP’s initiative for the ongoing preservation and protection of Rhino’s in Africa and India and the ongoing education, awareness and public support of this issue globally,” KP’s initiative describes itself thus.

Mumbai start IPL 11 on a losing note

On the field, the Mumbai Indians skipper will want to bounce back stronger in their next game, having lost the opener against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings. He will also have to deal with a big blow as Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the tournament.
