Rohit Sharma surpasses Virat Kohli's record of most sixes by an Indian T20I captain
Rohit Sharma was forced to retire hurt during the third T20I due to a back spasm.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are two of the finest batters in modern-day cricket having shattered a lot of individual records in their illustrious international careers so far. These two are the backbone of the Indian team and the duo would be expected to showcase outstanding performances in the upcoming Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.
On Tuesday (August 2), Rohit went on to break one of Kohli’s individual records in the shortest format. He achieved this feat during the third T20I between India and the West Indies at St Kitts on Tuesday, August 2. Sharma ended up breaking Kohli’s record of hitting the most number of sixes as India’s T20I captain.
Rohit Sharma achieves a new milestone during his short stay at the crease
Rohit Sharma might have scored only 11 runs off five deliveries in the third game, but it was a quickfire one as his knock included a four and a six. The six hit was courtesy of his signature pull shot which nearly ended up as a catch at deep backward square leg, but Dominic Drakes failed to hold on to it as the ball cleared the fence and went for a maximum.
Thus, the ‘Hitman’ went past his predecessor Virat Kohli to register the most number of sixes as Indian captain in the shortest format. Rohit now tops the chart with 60 sixes while Virat has 59 to his name. The legendary captain MS Dhoni occupies the third spot with 34 maximums to his name while leading the team.
Rohit looked well set for a big one in the third T20I before suffering a back spasm. While attempting to play an aggressive shot on the on-side, the dynamic opener ended up hurting his lower back which eventually forced him to leave the field for further treatment. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave an update stating that the Mumbai cricketer was being monitored by the medical team. As of now, the extent of the injury is still unknown.
