Rohit Sharma to join Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane and Ravi Shastri at performance appraisal meet

India captain Virat Kohli, vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane and head coach Ravi Shastri are slotted to attend India’s performance appraisal meet. Now, even limited-overs deputy skipper Rohit Sharma has been invited to attend the high profile meeting on Wednesday in Hyderabad. Initially, it was only going to be the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) heading the meeting with the head coach and the Indian captain along with the selectors.

Even Rohit has been asked to join the proceedings now, as these talks will range from selection policies to new player contracts. He has captained India on several occasions during Virat Kohli‘s absence. Earlier this year, he led the Men in Blue to a victory in the Nidahas Trophy, a tri-nation T20I series between India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Most recently, India won the Asia Cup in the UAE under Rohit Sharma’s leadership.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, a senior BCCI official confirmed that Rohit too has been asked to join the meeting. “Yes, he will be there. It is only fair that the limited-overs deputy and Test deputy are also there as talks will involve selection policies and remuneration of the cricketers,” he said.

Virat Kohli has displayed a constant tendency to make changes in his playing XI and even played as many as 39 Tests without the same XI in two consecutive matches. This has been a cause of concern and the CoA might discuss this with Kohli and Shastri.

Appraisal meet to discuss excessive changes

Rohit Sharma himself mentioned that making too many changes don’t give confidence to players. During his first press conference as stand-in skipper in the Asia Cup, Rohit had spoken about the need to make the players feel comfortable by giving them a prolonged stint.

“Nobody likes to be dropped and brought back into the squad. We want everyone to be feeling safe and settled so that they can play freely. As a captain or player, you want your team to be settled and even the guys who are eyeing that spot want to be settled,” he had earlier said.

The CoA is also likely to discuss the issue regarding lack of communication between the management and the players, according to the allegations by cricketers Murali Vijay and Karun Nair. Both claimed that after they were axed from the team and there was no communication from the management’s side about their position.
