Rohit Sharma urges nation to cheer for Indian contingent in Tokyo 2020 Olympics
Earlier, Virat Kohli also cheered for Indian athletes in Tokyo.
The Indian contingent of athletes that has gone to represent the nation for Tokyo 2020 has been garnering support and love from all corners. It was only a while back when Indian skipper Virat Kohli had extended his support for Indian athletes in Tokyo Olympics. In the latest turn of events, ace batsman Rohit Sharma has also come to extend his support for the athletes in Tokyo.
In the video posted by BCCI, Sharma could be seen cheering for Indian athletes and added that people should keep watching athletes performing in Tokyo while supporting them. The Indian lot would be performing across various disciplines to get hold of the medals in the showpiece event.
Talking about Sharma, he is currently up with India’s squad that will face England in the five-match high-profile Test series which commences on August 04. He even led his men in the warm-up game against the select county XI which was held in Durham to make the visiting side prepare for the English conditions. As regular captain Virat Kohli was nursing his stiff back while his deputy Ajinkya Rahane had hamstring issues, it was Sharma who took the charge of the Indian side in the warm-up game.

Talking about the Olympics games, it has to be noted that Saturday morning started on a high for India as Mirabai Chanu of Manipur rocked the show. Chanu showed exemplary efforts in Tokyo to bag the silver medal in the women’s 49kg weightlifting category and became the first Indian athlete to grab a medal in Tokyo 2020. She became the second Indian weightlifter to get the medal after Karnam Malleswari, who grabbed bronze for India in the 2000 Sydney games.
She lifted a total of 202kg weight and slipped off the gold medal by some margin. The gold medal in the same category was won by a Chinese weightlifter who went on to create a new Olympics record. On July 24, Manika Batra of the women’s table tennis category also proceeded to the next round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
