Since the last few days, speculations surrounding MS Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket after the 2019 World Cup have come to the fore. Dhoni, who turned 38 on July 7, has had an illustrious career with all the ICC championships under his belt. Even as the experienced campaigner was criticised aplenty, but his supporters hailed him.

Way back in 2011, Dhoni played a crucial role in ensuring that the Indian team lifted the World Cup. This time, the wishes to win the trophy for this Jharkhand-born cricketer. Rohit Sharma, who’s currently the leading run-getter of the mega event, wants to gift Dhoni the World Cup. The same was told by Dinesh Lad, Rohit’s childhood coach.

“Dhoni promoted Rohit to open the innings and the latter became successful from there. Now, it seems like he wants to gift him the Cup as it is Dhoni’s last World Cup,” Lad, who’s also the father of Mumbai cricketer Siddhesh Lad, was quoted as saying to Times Now.

Rohit Sharma – a game changer!

When Rohit Sharma played in the middle order, earlier in his career, he used to throw his wicket away. However, in 2013 during the Champions Trophy, Dhoni asked him to open the match in England. It was from then on Rohit’s career turned around. His coach reckoned that the batsman matured with time and that he understood the significance of playing good innings.

“He is playing with maturity and knows if he stays at the wicket for 10-12 overs he can go on to make a hundred. He is the vice-captain of the team and knows he has to stay at the crease with Virat Kohli as long as possible,” Lad mentioned.

Dinesh Lad also talked about how getting married to Ritika Sajdeh has led to the transformation of Rohit’s character. The couple was blessed with a baby girl when India was on a tour to Australia. Ritika and Samaira, their daughter, have also been at the venues while Rohit was racking up runs in the tournament with sheer dominance.

“Wife (Ritika Sajdeh) has been lucky for him and he has become more responsible especially after his daughter was born. He has himself said it and he made sure it has transformed into his batting. He is keen to stay at the wicket more and during the ongoing World Cup, he has been dismissed twice early against Afghanistan and West Indies. In the other seven games he scored at least a half century,” Lad added.
