Rohit Sharma warns South African players ahead of the tour
Head coach Ravi Shastri is also optimistic about India’s chances against the Proteas.
After a golden year for Indian cricket, the team is set to travel to South Africa in what will the first of many overseas tours. India dominated all the oppositions in 2017 and the fortress was never breached. Even the Rohit Sharma led side found it easy against the Sri Lankans. That shows the pool of players in the country and their ability to sustain at the highest level.
The No.1 team
To be the No.1 team in the world, the team has to well in overseas conditions too. Rohit Sharma, the in-form batsman of the Indian team feels that the Indians will not settle for anything less than a win. They have the momentum on their side and will give their 100% in the tour. It is India’s first major overseas tour since the 2014-15 trip to Australia. The Asian-giants have defeated strong oppositions at home but they are sure to expect an altogether different challenge against the Proteas in their den.
“Our team, with the kind of cricket we have been playing for the last few years, will be a force to reckon with. We want to go there to win and not settle for a draw,” Rohit was quoted as saying by Aaj Tak. “Can’t win thinking of a draw, not even of drawing the last two games after winning the first Test. We have to win everything. The last time we went to South Africa, we had an opportunity to win the series but things didn’t work out. The first Test ended in a draw and we made a mess of the second Test after being in a strong position.” He added.
Opportunity to Excel
Head coach Ravi Shastri is also optimistic about India’s chances against the Proteas. Shastri has played an integral role in transforming the team to a whole new level. “The belief is there and we will treat South Africa like we have treated every other opposition. There will be respect but we will go there to play to win.” Shastri said to Aaj Tak.
He thinks that the team has a massive opportunity to do something special on the tour. Everything about the current side looks positive, the players are in-form and there is belief. Fans are expecting another dominating series by Virat Kohli who will be back in action for the first test which is scheduled to start on January 5. The team is set to leave India on December 27 after winning the T20 series against Sri Lanka.
