Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma made a wonderful gesture on World Animal Day as he paid a surprise visit to his pet to grace the occasion. In a breather that the team has between the ODI and the T20I series against Australia, Rohit made best use of it by spending the afternoon with his dog.

The opener and his wife Ritika Sajdeh have a beagle named ‘Magic’. Dogs have unconditional love towards people and for cricketers who keep travelling around the year, it’s heartbreaking to stay away for that long. Hence, it’s always an embracing sight for them to see their pet after a stressing tour.

The swashbuckling opener who has been in a dashing form as of recently shared an adorable picture of him with ‘Magic’ on Twitter. He tweeted: “Decided to surprise my best bud for World Animal Day. The most powerful thing you can do is give a voice to voiceless.”

Sharma had recently even joined the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to support sterilization of homeless cats and dogs. He has been a fervent animal lover and has often showcased his love on social networking sites. This picture earned him a lot of adulation from fans who compared his love for dogs is similar to his love for IPL trophies.

This isn’t the first time an Indian cricketer has shown his affection for dogs. In the recent past, even Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have known to be dog lovers. Dhoni once had remarked, “I have three dogs at home. Even after losing a series or winning a series, they treat me the same way,” giving an insight on their faithfulness.

As the T20I series kicks off at Ranchi on Saturday, Rohit would be looking to replicate his performance from the ODIs into the T20 format as well.
