What we witnessed today was professionalism, both with bat and ball and one would have to say that Sri Lankan team had no answers for it. The three match series covered three cities, where over 2,000 runs were scored and over 70 wickets taken, and in the end, it was India who had too much fire power and managed to upstage Sri Lanka by winning series 3-0.

Day three of the third Test marked a historic win for men in blue who sealed a whitewash in away series for the first time in their Test history. Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami proved to be the architect on the second and third day, with some swashbuckling batting skills and vicious bowling respectively.

Before coming into this Test match, India had already gotten their hands on the trophy as they took an unassailable lead of 2-0 before coming to play the final Test match at Pallekele, and they yet again showed why they top the echelon in rankings.

For India, it was Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul who set the tone for coming batsmen with their enthralling partnership of 188 runs. Unfortunately, India’s middle order couldn’t fire much and the responsibility was on the lower middle order to get India to a respectable total.

Hardik Pandya made sure that India had enough runs o the board that will eventually help them to bowl out the opposition twice in two day’s time.

India were one foot in the door last evening when they enforced the follow-on and sent one of two openers back to the pavilion. If there was any incandescent hope in Sri Lanka’s camp, it was erased just after an hour’s play on day 3. Dimuth Karunaratne, who acted a pillar to a not so promising line-up departed early and it was just a matter of time from there on.

Rohit Sharma’s tweet:

India’s ODI vice captain, Rohit Sharma enjoyed India’s performance from the dugout and expressed ecstasy from his Twitter handle by saying, “It has truly been a remarkable journey for #TeamIndia these last few years, hope it continues for many for years #HalaIndia @BCCI”

India would be elated by wrapping up series in style and can definitely walk away with their head held high. For Sri Lanka, the clouds are dark and gloomy, which is yet to shower and bring the brightness back.

With this, excitement of red ball stands still as these two teams will take on each other in 5 match ODI series, starting on Sunday (20 August).
