Rohit Sharma's comments on his hundred leaves journalists in splits
He also requested media not to ask the questions related to his performances before 2013.
India created history by winning the ongoing ODI series against South Africa in their own den on Tuesday and also secured the number 1 spot in the format. It was yet another clinical performance from the visitors which had a similar template. This time Rohit Sharma found his groove for the first time on the tour and looked in ominous touch after taking his time to settle down in the middle.
He slammed his 17th ODI ton and made amends for his poor run in the series. Though on the way to his century, he was involved in not one but a couple of run-outs. There was a misunderstanding between him and the skipper Virat Kohli and the latter had to pay for it for the fifth time in seven times. Later, Ajinkya Rahane was also caught napping in a similar manner as Rohit yelled his ‘no’ call a touch late. Both the wickets sucked the life out of India’s innings and eventually ended a few runs short to set up a target.
Not in the mood to celebrate
Rohit Sharma played a match-winning knock of 115 runs on the back of which the team could post a total of 274 on the board despite enduring a collapse at the death. It was a rather subdued celebration from him as the innings was a perfect answer to his critics. However, when the question popped up in the post-match presser, Rohit’s answer left everyone in splits.
“Two batsmen (Kohli and Rahane) were run out before this (my hundred) in front of me. So, I was not in a mood to celebrate my hundred,” he said after which all the journalists started laughing. The Hitman didn’t stop here as he also asked the media to not ask the questions related to his performances before 2013 as he was then a middle-order batsman.
“Since 2013, there’s a change in the way I am batting. The way I have brought changes to my batting, before 2013, I used to bat in the middle order. Since 2013, I have started to open the innings. So, don’t take into consideration whatever had happened before 2013 and ask me questions (about what has happened) since then,” Rohit added.
The way he was speaking to the media after the series victory, it was clearly visible that Rohit was satisfied with his knock and he was relieved.
